Nepal Earthquake Update Monday May 4 2015

Krishna left from Pokhara yesterday with porters to carry relief supplies  to Gorkha and perhaps on to Langtang. When I last talked to him via FB messenger, just before he left, they were hiring a jeep to take them as far as possible. He was going to go via Besi Sahar, which is the eastern entry point for the Annapurna Circuit, or the western exit point for the Manaslu Circuit, depending on which trek you are doing. Besi Sahar can be reached from Dumre on the Kathmandu - Pokhara highway, the route I took almost eight years ago when I did the Annapurna Circuit with Krishna. From there they will just have to play it by ear, and see where they can get to. I don't know how they will get into Langtang, but if anyone can figure out how to, it is the intrepid Krishna.

Thanks for your support - I know he bought over $300 worth of supplies, mainly tents, tarps and cooking utensils. He said shelter and cooking gear is a big problem.

Here are just some pictures I gleaned from the internet on the damage to Langtang Village, and on the road into Langtang. We were in Langtang just two years ago - and now that village has been completely eradicated, along with over 200 human souls.

Upper photo after the earthquake and aftershocks: lower one before. A village with around 55 different chiya pasals and inns. Below is the entrance to the trek at Shyabru Besi: then the army outpost sheltering trekkers after the quake and aftershocks just below Ghotatabela; and then on the road in from Dunche. Following the photos a link to a Reuters report on airlifting supplies in (at Dunche) and getting people out of Langtang Valley.
