More bad news for Nepal; it appears that last night a huge landslide occurred in the Myagdi region of the Kali Gandaki River. This river runs between the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massifs in central Nepal, running from the border with Tibet in Mustang to west of Pokhara. Its one of the major rivers of of Nepal, and a trade route between Central and South Asia for millenia. Now the river is blocked on the lower reaches of its Himalayan course, above Beni, the District Center.  Here is a link on the Himalayan Times.

The ramifications of this are huge - villages  above the slide are being evacuated as the waters back up, as are villages below, in preparation for when the earth gives way, releasing a flood.
