Happy Bloomsday to all Joyceans out there. As for Nepal, we have decided to team up with our good friend and mentor, the Venerable monk Bhante Pannaloka of the International Monastic Buddhist College in Patan. Bhante also runs the International Shakyamuni Buddha Vihara and Vipassana Center in Lynn, Massachusetts. Bhante will be returning to Nepal in less than a week, for a month, to implement the distribution of aid and kick start, or assist, in rebuilding projects, focusing on specific areas in and around the Kathmandu Valley as well as rural areas. With Bhante and his team of monks and their assistants we should be able to finally implement the use of your kind donations, in particular in building shelter as the monsoon really begins to kick in.
A side note to the aftermath of the quakes - here is a link to a website devoted to the Manaslu trek. The first few days of this trek, perhaps the closest of any of the major Nepal treks to the epicenter of the first and biggest quake, were completely destroyed. This is a real tragedy, perhaps even above and beyond what has been suffered by other communities, as the tea pasals and inns in the valley of the Buddhi Gandaki, from Arughat Bazaar to Jagat, which had been newly constructed in anticipation of tourism were wiped out. The Tsum Valley to the northeast of the Manaslu Circuit suffered great losses as well. Here is the link:
